If you've been reading this journal awhile (or have noticed my crazy-ass posting times) then you know I'm a night person. This has caused a lot of trouble for me over the years, and last night it let me experience one of the weirdest things I have ever felt in my entire life.
Right around five thirty I was laying in bed reading when I heard a low rumbly sound - rather like a large car going through the gravel alley next to my window. The noise got a little louder, and it felt almost like a heavy wind blew against the side of the house, moving the windows and walls just a little. Then, I shit you not, the entire bed started wobbling back and forth and the glass of water next to my bed went Jurassic Park on me.
I'm sitting bolt upright at this point, thinking there's a tornado coming right at us and if we can't make it to the basement on time that the best alternate place is in the bathtub and basically freaking the fuck out. And then I remember: the weather has been absolutely beautiful the past few days - it's seventy and sunny as I type this now. As things settled down I turned on the weather channel and tentatively peeked out my window. Clear skies for miles. Still a little freaked out I decided enough was enough and went to bed.
This morning I turn on the weather channel and hear there was an earthquake in Illinois, and the tremors came all the way here.
An earthquake. In Northern Kentucky. Seriously people, what the fuck? All we need is a rain of frogs and my weekend is complete.
In hindsight, it was kinda neat in a freaky way and I'm glad I was awake. When the walls and floor are shaking around you there's very little you can do. There's no way of controlling the situation at all, and that's the scary part. The fun part is the shake and shimmy. :)
Further Duff discussion - The big man himself was in the tank today, and his girlfriend (Sophie?) was in the tunnel watching. He got to pet the nurse shark Ziggy (on of my favorites - she has a hunched back and curved tail because her previous owner's tank was too small) and feed the shark rays. I was quite proud of Sweet Pea; when it was Duff's turn she was very gentle, and didn't full-body tackle like she does the other divers. So Duff fed her and survived, and there were some great shots by the camera guys. They filmed both in and out of the water, with the cake unveiling happening tomorrow. Mom and I will be there bright and early with our cameras and dorky smiles. I am super-psyched!
